NLMK Group opened Research and Development Center for adopting innovation products
Description
NLMK Group, the international metallurgical company, opened the microstructure analysis laboratory center in Lipetsk where steel properties will be tested for developing new premium products and for optimizing metal treatment conditions.
This center is furnished the up-to-date measurement equipment. Scores of unique instruments can be used for carrying out microscopy and chemical analysis activities. New steel grades and new automotive, energy and construction sector products can be developed thanks to comprehensive analysis results.
This center will be used as an experience sharing site at which cooperation with leading research organizations will be held. Students graduated from NLMK base schools and core universities pass their probation period operating unique laboratory equipment doing computer simulation and microstructure analysis, learning ways of identification of perspective technological trends.
Some of the equipment used in the research center is the best one in this sector and there are no analogs in Russia.
For example, a transmission electron microscope provides the magnification that allows looking through 0.15 nanometer crystal lattice atoms. This kind of microscope was used by Dubochet, Frank and Henderson, chemistry Nobel awarders, in 2017 upon development of high-resolution cryoelectronic microscopy. Optic and emission spectrometer is a high-speed unit that can measure, for example, non-metallics. A quenching-emission dilatometer can be used for simulating real-time mechanical loads.
NLMK schedules to obtain new laboratory equipment. The physical simulation laboratory is opened in Lipetsk in 2020 for testing steel heat and mechanical treatment processes and another one will be opened at La Louviere, Belgium, for developing rolled iron coating technology.
«Growing metal performance improvement market demands can be met by nano-level in-depth studies only. The highly skilled team of international scientists works at our center while NLMK Group set itself ambitious objects offering new premium products to customers»
