Business targets
In large cities there is a problem of air pollution with oxides of various elements.
Various nitrogen oxides are especially dangerous. However the efficiency of air purification systems may be insufficient due to the limited localization of that equipment. The lack of their mobility leads to the fact that cleaning is performed in certain areas only where that equipment is located. At the same time in remote areas the air cleaned by convection. Thus, it is possible to reduce the concentration of hazardous substances only, but not to completely remove them from atmosphere.
In this project it is proposed to develop a coating capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxides (mainly NO2). This coating will be applied to steel sheets to be installed on walls and roofs in large cities.
Implementation features
Currently available scientific and technical solutions of this problem are mainly based on the catalytic oxidation of nitrogen oxides.
It is important to mention that the product of this reaction is a nitric acid being an aggressive corrosive and toxic compound. Therefore, for the successful commercial implementation of this project it is necessary to develop a material that can irreversibly absorb nitrogen oxides without releasing dangerous products.
