Steel for the production of high efficiency motor cores for low frequencies
Business targets
For a long time, NLMK has held a stable position both in the domestic and international markets for NGO electrical steels.
This market has recently received an additional impetus for growth against the background of an increasingly steadily growing trend to move away from energy of fossil fuels.
To defend its position in the market, NLMK is constantly working to improve the properties of the most common segment of this family of steels — low-frequency NGO steels with low specific losses during remagnetization.
Consumers of NGO steel with low specific losses are manufacturers of a wide range of domestic and industrial electric motors and generators.
Implementation features
Production of this class of steels is a well-known technological chain for NLMK
and the development of a new steel grade in this class does not imply development of a new production scheme. Thus, when conducting this project, the goal was primarily to optimize each transformation stage, and for this, in turn, it was necessary to determine the state of the metal at intermediate stages and find out how to achieve this state.
These criteria include the content of impurities in the metal. To quantitatively describe these quantities, as well as to study the processes that control changes in target characteristics, digital twins of a piece of equipment were created, industrial and laboratory experiments were carried out.
Effect
An analysis of key consumers, their demand, and an assessment of the potential market size showed that the new technology can increase the company’s EBITDA by 1.1 % per year
