Business targets
As part of its sustainable development strategy, NLMK Group is developing a new approach to reducing the environmental load (emissions of harmful substances) by optimizing technological modes and processes.
For these purposes, the R&D team creates mathematical models for calculating material and energy balances at various metallurgical redistributions. The use of such models makes it possible to quantify the effects of the introduction of new promising technological solutions such as improvement of existing technological processes in terms of energy efficiency, productivity, and emissions of harmful substances.
Implementation features
As a pilot case for creating balance models, the sintering process at the Sinter Plant was chosen, since at this transformation stage has the greatest emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
When calculating the material and energy balances, all chemical reactions and phase transformations occurring in the course of the simulated process are taken into account, and not only their thermodynamic parameters, but also their kinetic features.
